I had the honor of being part of the team that organized and coordinated the recent portrait session for the residents at Chippington Towers, a nearby low-income elderly resident facility. Working alongside Lori Maute, we were thrilled to see the joy and excitement that this event brought to the elderly residents we serve.
I look forward to this event every year as it is always a meaningful endeavor. With the support of Christopher Jones from Sowing Clover Photography and Canaan Kagay of Details Nashville, we were able to turn this vision into reality.
The day of the photoshoot was truly special. Residents arrived with beaming smiles and unique personalities, many accompanied by their furry companions. You could feel the sense of anticipation and enthusiasm in the air, as for some, this marked a rare opportunity to have their portrait taken professionally.
As I moved around the room, capturing background photos and assisting where needed, I couldn’t help but feel a profound sense of fulfillment. Seeing the residents light up as they posed for their portraits was truly a joy. What struck me the most was learning that for the majority of these residents, it had been decades since they last had their portrait taken. Professional photography was completely inaccessible to them both physically and financially. Being able to provide this service to them was truly moving for everyone involved.
I witnessed tears of happiness and heard exclamations of delight as residents marveled at their portraits, recognizing the value of this precious keepsake. For many, it was not only a personal treasure but also an opportunity to share a piece of themselves with their family and friends as we supplied them with both a framed 5x7 portrait as well as wallet sized prints to share.
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Lori Maute, whose dedication and support were instrumental in making this event a success. She ensured that every detail was taken care of, from coordinating with volunteers to ensuring the smooth flow of the photoshoot.
I also want to express my deepest gratitude to all our donors who generously supported our holiday campaign. Your contributions made it possible for us to bring this moment of joy and connection to the elderly residents we serve. Looking ahead, I am filled with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment to continue our mission of serving the elderly. Through projects like our portrait sessions, we aim to uplift spirits, create lasting memories, and remind each resident that they are seen, heard, and valued.
