The Youth Soccer League in El Salvador, funded in part by the 2020 G.O.D. Holiday Giving Campaign, has commenced! Our team contended with several season start delays, but praise God, it’s on! G.O.D. Cooperative Lorena Mejia reported that 57 boys and girls, ages 4-12, from 5 different communities joined the league. Parents, along with participating youth, are thrilled for the league and gather on both Tuesdays for practice sessions and also on Fridays for games.
Thanks to our generous donors and Mid State Sports Leagues, each player is provided with a soccer jersey and shorts! G.O.D. Latin America team members delivered the league supplies this summer, including all the necessary soccer equipment such as goals, balls, cones, and coaching needs.
Facilitating a soccer league is more than just sport; it’s also bringing families together across multiple communities. Cooperatives and student interns will regularly host families on our ministry campus, providing a safe and hospitable environment for fellowship and healthy competitive play. Coaches include G.O.D. student interns, as well as logistics assistance from older local youth! Teams were also intentionally organized to be co-ed, which is a unique experience for Salvadoran youth. As integrated groups, they’ll have the opportunity to work out a team dynamic, develop friendships, build their soccer skills and connect with our on-site team.
“Please pray for us as we facilitate this project for our student interns and the other volunteers who will give all their efforts to make a unique event unforgettable for the children. Thank you!”
— Lorena Mejia, G.O.D. Latin America Cooperative and on-site Coordinator
We anticipate a wonderful soccer season for all involved, and are thankful for the opportunity to demonstrate hospitality to our Salvadoran neighbors and local youth.
