G.O.D. Int'l Partners with FiftyForward to Pilot Intergenerational Tech Help Support Program

G.O.D. International is happy to announce a new partnership with FiftyForward. FiftyForward is a resource for adults 50+ in Middle Tennessee who seek to live longer, more fulfilling lives. Their mission is to support, champion and enhance life for those 50 and older.

Beginning this month, students from the Institute for G.O.D. Int’l will help pilot FiftyForward’s Intergenerational Tech Help Support program. College students will be utilizing their technological literacy to help the elderly with their technology needs. As you can imagine, new technology can be very difficult to learn, especially for those who did not grow up with smartphones and computers. College students will help senior citizens with FaceTiming their grandchildren, how to avoid spam, sending text messages, setting up telemed appointments and more!

Traci Bennett-Hobek from FiftyForward hosted a training for our college students on best practices when working with the elderly. College students also were given various devices like headphones and blurry glasses to simulate the kind of physical setbacks that the population they will be serving may be experiencing. Institute student Alison Jobe noted, “I grew up as a digital native, so I never had to work very hard to understand technology. For elderly folks, they don’t have that advantage, so I’m excited to share my knowledge with them.”

The mission of G.O.D. International’s Widow and Elderly Care program is “bridging the generations, the young and the old, through awareness, intentional service, and social interaction.” We believe that both youth and the elderly have so much to gain by listening and learning from each other. We are very excited for a new opportunity for young people and the elderly to do just that.
