G.O.D.'s WorkWell Program Hosts 60 Youth Employees

G.O.D.’s Youth Initiative Program, WorkWell, Begins its Fifth Year with 60 Youth

This summer Global Outreach Developments International will employ 60 youth, giving them valuable experience doing work that benefits their community. WorkWell is a program partner of Opportunity NOW, MDHA, and STARZ Nashville in cooperation with the Mayor’s Office of Nashville.

G.O.D.’s WorkWell helps Teens Do Work that “Matters”

WorkWell Program Director Rachel Hartnell remembers one of the first entrance interviews she conducted. The young man told her: “I just want to do something that matters. I feel like I am not capable enough to do anything that really means anything.” Since that time, Hartnell has learned most youth feel similarly. Global Outreach Developments International’s WorkWell Program ensures youth know their work matters.

This year, GOD’s WorkWell program welcomes 60 youth aged 14-24. 14-18-year-olds have the opportunity to work as camp counselors and facilitators with Camp Skillz, farmhands with Hopewell Farms, or assistants in neighborhood enhancement. 16-18-year-olds can participate in a youth intern program that continues to grow their workplace skills. Finally, college-aged youth serve as “Peer Leaders,” growing their skills in managing work crews with feedback from our nonprofit experts in the field.

We had more than 120 applicants just for the camp counselor position! One young woman said unless she could work at Hopewell Farms, she didn’t want a summer job. We are so grateful to equip young people with workplace skills AND the confidence that they’re doing something that matters. Join us in prayer for our exciting summer of WorkWell!
