Our Salvadoran cooperatives and interns are diligently studying the book of Exodus through a course taught by teachers of the Institute for G.O.D. A particularly impactful experience has been learning the Song of Moses (Exodus 15), which is about thanksgiving, praising God for his deliverance and faithfulness. In a moment preceding so many unknowns, Israel stopped to acknowledge the Lord and His guidance that led them out of captivity and into freedom.
Students of the class were assigned to write their own song, and were asked, “In what ways has the Lord guided you, in your life? In what areas do you see his hand, delivering you, rescuing you, and bringing you into an experience of freedom?”
Lorena Mejia, G.O.D. cooperative (pictured left), reflects on her journey with God, saying, “The world tried to distract me; tragedy came into my life and I didn’t realize that you were with me. Bitterness and resentment came alive in me and prevented me from looking for you. Alone, I cried sadly and helplessly, believing that no one gave their life for me. I wandered in this world without finding a way out, without meaning or direction … but you came, and in solitude you found me.
Lorena’s song, titled “I Will Praise You,” mirrors the response of the Israelites as led by Israel, to take a moment to reflect on all that God has done, and give him praise. In obedience, she follows the mandate of Deuteronomy 8:2 by remembering the whole way that the Lord has led her. This action not only records a legacy for her children and their children, but it combats the proclivity that we as human beings have to forget the Lord our God. (Deut. 8:11-12)
“You came into my life, let me know that I have a good father to take refuge in, you took me out of the darkness, you took away my fears, and you gave me courage, justice and love. You are Lord. ”

Be blessed by Lorena’s song today, as we are, and remember the way the Lord has led you!
