Last winter, we asked you to share with widows, farmers, families, and schoolchildren in East Africa. With your help, G.O.D. Int’l was able to complete or initiate projects for each of these communities of need.
Between Uganda’s record-long COVID restrictions and a recent Ebola outbreak, we’ve faced challenges continuing to meet the poor’s needs in East Africa. Though our team in the US has had to remain stateside, our cooperatives on the ground have exercised caution while maintaining their commitment to love their neighbors. In Kenya and Uganda, we facilitated four agriculture conferences for local farmers, with more in the works. In Uganda, we initiated a plan to pipe water onto a local school’s property, which will eliminate the need for multiple students to spend multiple class periods collecting water from the town’s well every day. Below we’ve highlighted two important projects, a widow’s home renovation in Uganda, and rocket stoves built this year in Kenya.
G.O.D. Uganda staff built Madam Joyce a newly-renovated home to fit her needs.
Madam Joyce, a former schoolteacher, is both widowed and nearly completely blind. When we reconnected with her over a year ago, she was in desperate need of a new handicap-accessible bathroom. Due to the overwhelming support we received for her during last year’s holiday campaign, we were able to renovate her bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, and water catchment. As the foreman on the job, Ugandan cooperative Francis Lubega took incredible care to ensure every detail was considered during the project. We’re overjoyed to have participated in making her surroundings more accommodating to her so she can function healthily. A huge thanks to Francis and his team for their hard work. Check out these photos of the process and improvements!
G.O.D. Kenya staff built over 50 rocket stoves for their neighbors in 2022.
Kenyan cooperatives and brothers Simon Njeru and Reuben Ndwiga have been building rocket stoves for over five years, trialing first in their own kitchens, then taking the technology to their neighbors. Indoor air pollution (commonly from cook fires) kills 4 million people (primarily poor women and children in Africa and Asia) annually. Rocket stoves are safer than traditional African stoves, are smokeless, and fuel-efficient. Every year, more and more people in the brothers’ village request rocket stoves in their homes. This year alone they built 54 rocket stoves, impacting the health and lives of 500+ people. We’ll never get tired of providing this truly life-saving tool to those in need. Check out some of their stoves and thankful recipients!
