Students from the 7 week Bible course eagerly participated each week in effort to become better at reading and applying the Bible to everyday experiences.
We’ve had a full summer at Tahanan! Several of our summer programs have come to a close and we’re transitioning to welcome teams from our organization’s hub in Nashville to serve with us the next few months.
This past Sunday, we finished up our seven week Bible course with 12 students. The class was meant to introduce the participants into taking a more academic approach to studying the Scriptures, and to help them on their way to becoming good biblical interpreters. While the course was only a couple of months long, the students had the opportunity to give presentations, take quizzes and exams, complete homework, and recite a piece of Scripture in front of their classmates. At the end of the class, each student received a certificate to commemorate their achievement.
Developing a garden was one of the variety of skills Pepito was stretched learn during his internship at Tahanan.
We also just wrapped up our summer internship program. This is the first year we have conducted the program and were so pleased with both participants, Alison and Pepito. The interns were challenged to think about how they do ministry and were encouraged to learn new skills that could benefit them in the areas in which they serve, from hospitality to media and communications. They were also given opportunities to consider ways in which God has worked in their lives and to think deeper about how he has shaped them. Alison and Pepito faithfully served in our community center garden, facilitated outreach events, and participated in spiritual development opportunities.
As the summer came to a close, we celebrated with a day-long retreat together to Pines Creek, a spring in nearby Burauen. The young adults thoroughly enjoyed their time relaxing in the sun and playing in the cool spring waters.
God has been good to us here. We are thankful for all that he has been doing here in Leyte, and we look forward to all he will do as another school season starts.
