Welcome to Language in Action

Welcome to Language In Action: ELL, a unique English Language Learning program in the greater Nashville area designed to empower adult learners on their journey to success. Our program, tailored for individuals with diverse schedules, acknowledges the challenges posed by jobs, family commitments, and varying educational backgrounds. We run our program in 8 week sessions throughout the year from January through December. In between each 8 weeks, we offer students opportunities to attend a seminar or workshop provided by community professionals that are tailored to our participants' expressed interest and needs.

It is our mission to help immigrants and refugees integrate into the new American society they have migrated to.

We understand that each language learner is unique and brings diverse stories, skills, and challenges. That's why we have skilled teachers and volunteers who know how to consider the individual needs of our participants, and create dynamic lessons that are practical and empowering in their endeavor to learn English. It is our hope that through our program the participants will not only learn English but gain practical skills to get jobs, help their kids in school, go to the doctor, etc.

Our curriculum is structured around the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL), ensuring a comprehensive and standardized approach to language learning. Each class is thoughtfully designed, encompassing grammar, cultural understanding, and practical skill sets relevant to each proficiency level.

What makes Language In Action ELL truly special is our commitment to the holistic development of our students. We recognize the challenges faced by individuals who uproot themselves from their home countries to start anew. Our program not only teaches English language skills but also imparts cultural norms and practical knowledge essential for navigating life in a new country.

Commitment to Holistic Development

From maintaining an American home to navigating the healthcare system, from grocery shopping to accessing resources like the library, our ELL teachers are highly skilled to create classes based on the participants' practical needs. We meet our students where they are, whether they're rebuilding their lives from scratch or refining existing foundations.

Real World Experience

Language In Action: ELL is more than a language learning program; it's led by a team that hears, sees, and cares for its adult learners and strives to create a hospitable environment for them to learn, develop, and thrive in. Join us on this transformative journey, where language is not just a skill acquired but a tool for building a brighter future.

Support from People Who Care

In our traditional ELL track, participants embark on a journey that goes beyond language acquisition. Upon completion of the program, we offer the opportunity for a job interview tailored to their area of interest and expertise. This innovative approach sets us apart, providing a bridge between language learning and real-world application.

For those seeking shorter-term commitments, our non-traditional tracks provide a specialized focus on various industries and life skills, catering to a wide array of interests. Upon successful completion, participants receive a certification that not only acknowledges their linguistic achievements but also gain skills to continue language acquisition outside of the classroom.
